About the Program

We want to speed up medical research. And we’re asking one million or more people to help lead the way

Program Overview

Dr. Conway enrolls in All of Us Research Program The All of Us Research program is a large research program. The goal is to help researchers understand more about why people get sick or stay healthy.

At the moment, health care is often one-size-fits-all. But imagine a future where your health care is tailored to you. We want to make that future possible. How? By creating a resource that allows researchers to conduct thousands of studies on health and disease.

Who Can Join?

All eligible adults who live in the United States can join the All of Us Research Program. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Right now, only people who are 18 or older can join All of Us.

What Information Do Participants Share?

Participants can choose how much they want to share with the program. Some types of information that you’ll be asked to share include answering health surveys, donating blood saliva and urine samples, and electronic health record data.

What Does This Mean?

We are creating a research community of one million people or more who will share their unique health data. This will include answering survey questions about health, environment, and lifestyle. Some participants may also be asked to have their physical measurements taken, and/or give blood and urine samples. We’ll ask you to answer more questions from time to time. It’s up to you to decide how much data you share.

The health data we gather from our community will be added to a database. Approved researchers can then access this data to further understand how different factors, such as environment, lifestyle, and genes, can impact health. By looking for patterns, researchers may learn more about what affects people’s health. This may help develop new medical treatments that are unique to individuals, and enable a future of precision medicine for all of us.

We take your privacy very seriously. When you provide personal information, your name and things that easily identify you will be removed, and replaced with a unique code. We’ll take care to keep your information secure.

We expect the program to last at least ten years, and we hope you’ll stay involved over time. If you join, you can withdraw at any time for any reason without penalty.

What is Precision Medicine?

Precision medicine is health care that is based on each individual. It takes into account factors like where you live, what you do, and your family health history. Precision medicine’s goal is to be able to tell people the best ways to stay healthy. If someone does get sick, precision medicine may help health care teams find treatments that will work best. Participants can help by sharing their health information for research.
