Sports Medicine Team

At Henry Ford Sports Medicine, what sets us apart is our comprehensive approach to treating the whole athlete. That begins with a visit to one of our sports medicine primary care doctors. From there your primary care doctor will determine if and when it’s appropriate to bring in another specialty. We work across multiple disciplines of orthopedics, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, ear nose and throat, nutrition, sleep, physical therapy and athletic training, all specially trained to treat athletes. Let’s get started on your unique game plan today.

Our focus is on getting you back in the game as quickly as possible; therefore we have both primary care sports medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons on our physician team. The majority of athletic injuries require rehabilitation, sports conditioning, or other services. Patients typically will see a Primary Care Sports Medicine physician first.

Primary Care Sports Medicine Physicians

For injuries that require surgery, our Sports Medicine orthopedic surgeons will work with the Primary Care Sports Medicine physicians, or your own Primary Care Provider, to get you back on the road to recovery.

Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeons

With a wide range of sub-specialty physicians who are also experts in sports medicine, we’re the only team in Michigan where every member is part of a unified group of medical and surgical specialists.

Athletic Trainers

Our Athletic Trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with our physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. They work under the direction of a physician as prescribed by state licensure statutes.

Our ATs support the athletic programs to over 100 Central and Southeast Michigan area high schools, colleges and universities, and professional teams.

Physical Therapists

Our physical therapists do a thorough biomechanical assessment, develop a plan of care and use a variety of treatment techniques to help you reduce pain, restore function and return to your activities. Most health insurance plans cover physical therapy services. Physical Therapy services are accessible through a referral from a physician.
