The Game On Cancer Kid’s Club

Game On Cancer along with DFCU and OptimEyes are honored to be sponsors of the Game On Cancer Kid's Club. The Kid’s Club is geared toward school-aged kids who have a parent, sibling, or close relative with cancer. This group will create a network that breaks down the social isolation that can sometimes result from a cancer diagnosis in the family.

Each member of the Kid’s Club will receive a “toolkit”—a drawstring backpack with resources and fun items like a coloring book, baseball hat, and gift card for a family activity intended to alleviate anxiety and promote bonding. We will also provide day camps and other fun outings for children and siblings of cancer patients, along with their families.

CLIMB©

Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery (CLIMB©) is a unique program for children ages 6-12 who have a parent or close loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer. This free program meets weekly in the evenings for 6 weeks at a time, using conversation and art to help children identify and appropriately express complicated feelings. There is a concurrent parent session that meets at the same time with a licensed medical social worker to discuss what the children are learning and how it can be expanded at home. Dinner will be provided.

CLIMB© was developed by The Children’s Treehouse Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to the emotional support of children who have parents with cancer. Our facilitators have been specially trained to provide this program. It will be offered once per quarter in rotating locations across the system. Get more information on the next CLIMB© session.

Family Counseling

Talking to your kids about cancer and what it means for your family can be tough. We offer patients at Henry Ford Cancer the opportunity to meet as a family with one of our oncology social workers. Our experienced social workers can help guide you through difficult conversations and give you and your kids the option to ask questions in a safe environment. We also offer informative books and resources to help your kids moving forward. To set up a counseling session, ask someone on your cancer care team to connect you with an oncology social worker.
