You can make a difference

Everyone wants to do something significant in their lifetime. One way some people are doing that is by volunteering. Volunteers make contributions that are so valuable that they change the lives of everyone they come in contact with. Whether it's the kind gesture of getting a blanket for a patient, comforting family members in the waiting rooms or assisting staff with their responsibilities, volunteers touch the lives of many people.

Who are they?

A unique blend of community members forms the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital volunteer family. They include teens, college students, professionals and senior citizens.

What do they do?

Some of the important things they do include: greet visitors with a smile, get a blanket for a patient who's feeling cold, comfort family members in the waiting room, enhance communication in the emergency departments, staff the gift shops and perform clerical duties.

When do they volunteer?

Volunteering fits into everyone's schedule. Volunteers can work any time of the day or night, seven days of the week. The Volunteer Resources Department prefers volunteers commit at least four hours a week. However, many eagerly volunteer much more because they love what they do and they love the people.

Where do they volunteer?

Areas volunteers work in include the nursing units, the gift shop, the Emergency Department, Admitting Office, Outpatient Testing and the Cancer Care Center. Some volunteers work on various special projects such as flu clinics, children's health fairs and screenings at the hospital and in the community.
