Ilan Rubinfeld, MD, MBA, is the chief medical informatics officer (CMIO) and chief medical officer-associate at Henry Ford Hospital. He is focused on optimizing the electronic medical record (EMR) and analytics tools as he collaborates with medical and operational leadership. He also serves as the CMIO of the Henry Ford Innovation Institute.

In his role as chief medical officer-associate, he is responsible for providing medical leadership for Henry Ford Hospital in facilitating medical staff interactions with administration/management, nursing, hospital-based services and governance in order to assure effective and efficient delivery of medical care, consistent with the philosophy and mission of Henry Ford Hospital. He is also a member of numerous hospital and System committees, including the Physician Helios Implementation Project Team and an array of informatics and analytics committees and task forces.

He is also an acute care surgeon, with added qualification in surgical intensive care. He maintains clinical exposure which includes intensive care unit rounding weeks, acute care surgical team rounding weeks as well as acute care surgical in-house trauma and emergency surgery overnight call.

As a researcher, he has continued with academic productivity while in a primarily administrative role including numerous grants, papers and national presentations. His research focus has been on leveraging machine learning methods in quality and operational research, as well as surgical outcomes, frailty, with an increasing focus on social determinants of health. He continues to collaborate with the Department of Pathology on operational project related to laboratory utilization.

Outside of Henry Ford, he is a professor of surgery at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Dr. Rubinfeld completed his general surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in trauma and critical care at the University of California San Diego. Dr. Rubinfeld also has completed a patient safety fellowship through the Health Education Research Trust and is board certified in clinical informatics.

A graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School Inteflex Program, Dr. Rubinfeld also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
