Inpatient Assessment
Gathering information for effective psychiatric care
Before we can care for your behavioral or mental health concerns, we first have to understand the specifics of your condition and the types of treatment that will help you most. A thorough assessment gives us the vital information our team will use in your inpatient psychiatric care.
Patients usually enter inpatient psychiatric care after a referral from an emergency room doctor. Occasionally, a psychiatrist or primary care doctor may also refer patients for inpatient treatment. Once you’ve been admitted to inpatient care, a thorough assessment allows us to create a customized treatment plan to meet your specific needs.
What to expect from your inpatient assessment
Once we’ve determined that you could benefit from inpatient psychiatric care, we’ll admit you and assign you to a room. Afterward, you’ll have one-on-one meetings with members of our care team. You may meet with a:
- Psychiatrist
- Psychologist
- Nurse
- Nurse practitioner
- Social worker
The providers use what they learn in these meetings to complete a full assessment of your condition. We’ll use this assessment to create your personalized treatment plan with your input. For adult patients, we encourage loved ones to participate in the treatment plan if you choose. Guardians are asked to participate in the assessment process. For child and teen patients, parents/guardians are required to be involved, although other family members may participate as well.
