How vasectomy reversal works

In a vasectomy, the surgeon cuts and seals off the ends of the tube (vas deferens) through which sperm move from the testicles into the semen. After surgery, your testicles continue to produce sperm but it’s absorbed by your body, not released into semen.

The goal of a vasectomy reversal is to reconnect the cut ends of the vas deferens. When surgery is successful, sperm can again leave the testicles and mix with semen.
