Program Overview - Where we started and where we are now
More than 15,000 services are delivered annually to metro-Detroit students and community members through the Henry Ford School-Based and Community Health Program
The program provides complete, interdisciplinary, and confidential services that meet the needs of students where they spend most of their time.
In 1991, the first Henry Ford Health school-based health clinic was opened in Hutchins Middle School. With support from the Kellogg Foundation, Hutchins became one of the first middle schools in Detroit to have a health clinic of this kind. In 1994, the program was expanded and received funding from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). It now includes more than 30 sites in school and community settings across metro-Detroit.
In addition to state grant funds, the program is made possible through financial support from Henry Ford Health. The school-based program demonstrates Henry Ford Health’s commitment to children and their families in the communities we serve. Donate today to support our vision for a region in which all young people have what they need to be healthy.
