Shoulder Conditions
Care for rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, shoulder fractures and other conditions.
We often take simple activities like bathing, getting dressed, or sleeping for granted. But a painful shoulder can make these and other normal activities difficult or impossible.
Our team of joint specialists has treatment options to relieve shoulder pain.
Shoulder conditions we treat
We treat many kinds of shoulder conditions, such as:
- Arthritis
- Frozen shoulder
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Shoulder fractures
- Shoulder instability
- Soft-tissue injuries, or injuries to muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the shoulder
- Tendinitis, or a swelling of a tendon that usually happens after repeated injury
Shoulder fractures
There are two types of shoulder fractures: nondisplaced and displaced.
In a nondisplaced shoulder fracture, the pieces are near their normal positions. Our doctors usually can treat these types of shoulder fractures with nonsurgical treatment, such as immobilizing your arm in a sling until the fracture heals. We’ll use X-rays to monitor your progress and make sure the fracture has healed properly.
In a displaced shoulder fracture, the pieces of broken bone aren’t near where they’re supposed to be. We may need to perform surgery to bring the broken pieces back together and mend this type of fracture.
Shoulder instability
Shoulder instability happens when the ligaments, muscles, and bones of the shoulder become stretched or injured. There are many reasons that patients can have shoulder instability, such as sports injuries or falls. Our doctors typically recommend rest and limited use of the shoulder for a few weeks until you regain the full use of your shoulder.
Treatment options for shoulder conditions
We provide a variety of treatments for shoulder problems. Your doctor will discuss your options and help you create a personalized treatment plan.
Depending on your condition, treatment may include:
- Anti-inflammatory medication
- Physical therapy
- Shoulder injections
In serious cases, your doctor may recommend shoulder surgery or shoulder replacement to correct the problem.
