Testicular Ultrasound

Testicular Ultrasound is an exam that obtains images of the scrotum and testicles by using sound waves. A hand-held transducer (probe) is used to create images of the scrotum and testicles. Its strengths include detection and localization of scrotal masses, fluid collections, inflammatory disease and vascular abnormalities.

Preparation

• Typically there is no prep for this procedure.
• Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment with a prescription if your doctor has given one to you.

Procedure

• You will lie on the exam table with your scrotum exposed.
• A non-greasy gel will be applied to your skin during the exam.
• The sonographer will use a hand-held transducer a (probe) against your skin to obtain images of the scrotum and testicles.

Considerations

• Let the technologist know:
  • If you have had any previous surgery.
  • If you take any medication.
