Musculoskeletal or Extremity Ultrasound
Musculoskeletal or Extremity Non-Vascular Ultrasound is an exam that obtains images of the area of interest (examples could be arm, leg, knee, shoulder, foot).
Preparation
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment with a prescription if your doctor has given one to you.
- If you are scheduled for a musculoskeletal procedure rather than a scan, you will be contacted prior to your appointment with test preparation information.
Procedure
- You will lie on the exam table with the area of interest exposed (arms or legs).
- A non-greasy gel will be applied to the skin during the exam.
- The sonographer will use a handheld transducer to obtain images.
Considerations
- Bring list of medications.
- Let technologist know if you’ve had any previous surgeries.
- Please remember that children are not allowed with you in the exam room. Bringing unsupervised children with you to the exam will result in the need to reschedule your appointment.
