About Me

I specialize in robotic surgery for kidney cancer, prostate cancer, adrenal tumors, testis cancer, penile cancer and bladder cancer. I also perform robotic surgery for blockages of the ureter, including robotic pyeloplasty for ureteropelvic junction obstruction and robotic ureteroplasty or ureteral reimplant for ureteral strictures.
Biographical Statement:
Dr. Rogers trained at some of the top medical centers in the country alongside pioneers of minimally invasive surgery techniques for urologic cancers. He attended Stanford University School of Medicine and received his M.D. degree. He completed his urology residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital followed by a fellowship in urologic oncology at the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Rogers performs image guided diagnostic procedures for prostate cancer, robotic prostate surgery, and focal ablative therapies for qualified patients with localized prostate cancer, including High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) and Cryoablation.
Dr. Rogers performs robotic surgery to remove kidney tumors. Whenever possible, he uses robotic assistance to remove the tumor while saving the rest of the normal kidney. He also performs open surgery for kidney tumors that are not amenable to a minimally invasive approach. He also offers options such as cryoablation or surveillance for small kidney tumors in patients who are not candidates for surgical removal.

Awards & Honors:
Dr. Rogers performed the first live webcast of a complex robotic partial nephrectomy (RPN) and the first live surgical demonstration of RPN surgeries at the American Urological Association National Meetings. Dr. Rogers has spoken both nationally and internationally on topics including robotic kidney surgery and robotic prostatectomy and has been featured on CNN. He published the first descriptions of RPN for complex tumors and patients. Dr. Rogers has published extensively on the subjects of minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, prostate cancer, kidney cancer and bladder cancer, with over 200 publications and 20 book chapters. He serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for several urologic journals. He is Co-Director of the Michigan Urologic Surgery Improvement Collaborative for Kidney Cancer (MUSIC-KIDNEY). Dr. Rogers helped to develop robotic ultrasound probes, robotic bulldog clamps, and other novel techniques that have become routinely used during RPN. He served as President of the Society of Urologic Robotic Surgeons.
