Biographical Statement

Dr. Humberto Gonzalez-Gonzalez is a board-certified transplant hepatologist at Henry Ford Health specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of advanced liver disease. He provides comprehensive care for patients with chronic liver conditions and works closely with individuals throughout the liver transplant process, from evaluation and transplantation to long-term post-transplant management.

A key focus of Dr. Gonzalez’s clinical and research work is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), particularly in patients with advanced liver disease who may require liver transplantation. He founded Henry Ford Health’s Metabolic Liver Disease Clinic, which provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for patients with MASLD and MASH.

Dr. Gonzalez is actively involved in advancing the science of liver disease and serves as principal investigator on multiple pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials focused on MASH. His work has helped expand access to innovative diagnostic and treatment options, including the implementation of noninvasive testing approaches for the diagnosis and monitoring of MASH, as well as novel therapies for complications of advanced liver disease, such as the alfapump system.

Dedicated to delivering personalized, compassionate care, Dr. Gonzalez helps patients navigate complex liver diseases while improving their quality of life. His clinical expertise includes the management of cirrhosis, liver failure, viral hepatitis, MASLD/MASH and complications related to advanced liver disease. He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients receive coordinated, evidence-based care throughout their treatment journey.

Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Gonzalez is committed to improving access to care and patient education for diverse populations. He strives to build strong relationships with patients and families, empowering them to make informed decisions about their health and treatment options.
