Henry Ford Hospital Visitor Information

When visiting a patient at Henry Ford Hospital, please follow these guidelines:

  • Regular visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Enter the hospital through the Main Entrance.
    • If approved in advance by the patient’s nurse/care team for after-hours visitation, enter the hospital at the 24-hour Entrance between 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. Learn more about after-hours and overnight visitation.
  • Two visitors are allowed at a time.
  • Visitors must be at least 12 years old unless approved to visit by the health care team in advance. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Wash and sanitize your hands before, during and after visiting a patient.
  • If you are not feeling well or have respiratory symptoms, like coughing or sneezing, you should not visit a patient in the hospital.
  • You may wear a mask at any time if you wish.
  • Masks are required in areas where we are caring for severely immunocompromised patients. These areas include oncology (cancer), transplant, neonatal intensive care, special care nurseries, and dialysis and infusion in our ambulatory areas. Please wear a mask in any area if you are asked.   • A visitor may be restricted from the Henry Ford Hospital campus for threats or acts of violence toward any patient, visitor or employee, disruptive behavior, carrying any type of weapon, use of or transporting illegal substances to the patient, or arriving impaired due to drug or alcohol use.
  • Review these visitor expectations before arriving at a Henry Ford Health location.

Special visitor guidelines for these areas

Emergency department: One visitor only, unless approved by the health care team. Two visitors may switch with one another, but only one visitor at a time may be with the patient.

Critical care: The number of visitors and length of time visitors may stay with a patient in Critical Care may be limited. The patient's care team will advise visitors on how long they may stay with the patient.

Hospice or end of life: Patients who are at the end of life or in hospice may have visitors. Please talk to your patient’s care team about the number of visitors that can be in the patient’s room at one time. For large family groups, visitors may swap out. Those not in the patient’s room may wait in the Main Lobby. After hours, they may wait in the West Pavilion Lobby. Visitors may include family members under 12 years of age with permission of the care team.

Surgical care: Two visitors on the day of surgery.

  • Inpatient surgeries: Two visitors. Only one visitor may accompany the patient in the pre-op and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU)/recovery areas.
  • Pediatric surgical patients: Two parents or legal guardians.

Obstetrics, labor & delivery, family-centered maternity care, and mother-baby units, including NICUs and special care nurseries: Learn more about visiting mother and baby units.

The K Building (clinic attached to Henry Ford Hospital): Two visitors.

COVID-positive patients: COVID-19 positive patients (or patients awaiting COVID test results) are permitted one visitor in the room at a time. Visitors will be asked to wear protective equipment (mask, face shield, gown and gloves). The visitor should remain in the patient’s room for the duration of the visit.
