Undergraduate Research for College Credit Hours

We partner with university programs, like the University of Michigan UROP, to get undergraduate students valuable first-hand experience in a professional clinical research lab for college credit hours. Contact your university to see if they offer programs that grant credit hours for external research participation. If your university does, get in contact with our team at, to let us know you are interested in arranging a partnership with the HFH Sleep Research Center and your university!

Clinical Practicum for Graduate Students

Clinical Practicums through the HFH Sleep Research Center are designed for graduate students in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, and other health professions. Those interested in supervised practical application of their academic work are invited to reach out to us at to learn more about what is offered to Practicum students and begin the application process.

HFH Psychology Internship – Behavioral Sleep/Circadian Medicine & Research Track

The Behavioral Sleep/Circadian Medicine & Research track of the HFH Psychology Internship is ideal for those with a career goal to be an independent researcher or for those who want to pursue sleep and circadian research alongside clinical work. The primary emphasis is to develop a clinician researcher who will gain skills in conducting research within a health care setting. Our institution also offers a HFH Sleep Medicine Postdoctoral Fellowship program (described below), and interns will be encouraged to apply for a position.

The intern will be matched with a primary mentor from the HFH Sleep Research Center. Faculty available to serve as a mentor, and a description of their research program and projects, are described here.

Interns will complete a major rotation in Clinical Research and work alongside their primary mentor over the entire internship year. Additionally, interns will also engage in a year-long major rotation in Behavioral Sleep Medicine (see below), and have the option for additional minor rotations. Interns will meet with the training director to design a program based on their own unique training goals and interests. For information on the application process, click here.

HFH Sleep Medicine Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Division of Sleep Medicine offers a one year fellowship in Sleep Medicine to 3 fellows each year. The program is accredited by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Our academic affiliation is with Michigan State University and Wayne State University. The fellowship program is integrated with the Henry Ford training programs for Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Otolaryngology. For additional pediatric sleep medicine training, there is an affiliation with Children's Hospital of Michigan, which is located nearby.
