A Message From the Program Director

Welcome to the Henry Ford Sleep Disorders and Research Center. We are very happy that you are interested on learning about our Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program.

The Henry Ford Sleep Disorders and Research Center was founded in 1978 by Dr. Thomas Roth, who is a legend in the field of sleep medicine. From its beginnings, our center has been dedicated to the development and teaching of sleep science, and we are very proud to continue that legacy.

The field of sleep medicine is really fascinating. I was exposed to sleep medicine during my first year of training as a pulmonary and critical care fellow at Henry Ford Hospital and fell in love with this specialty. Through the years, I have been able to witness the growth of knowledge in several areas related to the basic science of sleep, the development of new medications for hypersomnia syndromes and insomnia, the development of new devices for the treatment of obstructive and central sleep apnea; and many other advances which makes me feel excited about what is coming next.

We are proud of our very diverse and dedicated faculty who is interested in the success of our fellows; they provide the support they need to grow their knowledge in the science of sleep medicine and get them ready for the next step in their careers as sleep medicine experts and advocates for patients and their communities. This fellowship has been developed for the fellows, and with that in mind, we listen to them and take their recommendations for improvement seriously so we can make the program better and better each year. Our sleep medicine family grows with them and we are very honored to participate in their education and development as sleep medicine physicians.

I hope this page helps you get all the information you need about our program. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly or our program coordinator if you have any questions.

All the best,

Luisa Bazan, M.D.
