Resident Wellness
Henry Ford Hospital as an institution as well as the Behavioral Health Department considers resident wellness a priority. A healthy mind and healthy body are paramount to having a healthy resident. A few years ago, prior to new ACGME requirements for resident wellness, our residents came to us to develop a curriculum for wellness, we listened!
We instituted a curriculum that included some didactic information and scheduled wellness activities, known as our 5th Thursdays. On these days, residents are given the afternoon to engage in activities that support wellness such as art therapy, cooking, escape rooms, gardening and even the simple act of painting pumpkins.
Our institution took this project up at a system level and created a comprehensive wellness series with a wide array of topics. The system has arranged for a variety of benefits to enhance wellness, this includes an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which is available to both employees and their families and Uber ride share which is available to all residents post-call who are too exhausted to drive. In addition to this concierge call rooms are available if needed at any time.
Our residents also participate in both the institutional curriculum as well as enhancements previously developed in our department.
