Welcome Letter From Program Director

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Obstetrics and Gynecology program at Henry Ford Hospital. The Obstetrics and Gynecology program at Henry Ford Hospital is an accredited four year post graduate training program. The goal of our residency training program is to train outstanding, curious and compassionate physicians who go on to become leaders in Obstetrics and Gynecology. To achieve that goal, we provide four years of comprehensive training in general Obstetrics, Gynecology, as well as, significant exposure in the subspecialties of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, Minimally Invasive Gynecology and Pediatric /Adolescent Gynecology. The program offers a wide variety of experiences in both acute and ambulatory Gynecology and Obstetrics. In addition, there are numerous opportunities to develop scholarship in research, teaching and patient care. We also offer fellowships in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery, Maternal Fetal Medicine and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery.

Biographical statement

Dr. Monique Swain received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her post-graduate training in obstetrics and gynecology at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University in Detroit. While completing her residency, Dr. Swain earned the Chairman's award for outstanding resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After residency training, Dr. Swain completed a fellowship in Breast Diseases and Surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Dr. Swain serves as the Program Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She is an obstetrics and gynecology surgeon who specializes in women diagnosed with breast cancer, women at high risk for breast cancer due to abnormal genetics, including BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, and benign breast diseases. Dr. Swain's intellectual curiosity has led to multiple research publications investigating health care disparities, breast cancer, and genetics. Dr. Swain has been recognized as one of 2022 Detroit's Top Doctors in Hour Magazine in both Obstetrics and Gynecology, earned awards in both physician assistant and medical student education, and is a recipient of the C. Paul Hodgkin's Award for dedication toward the Academic Enrichment of the OBGYN Residency Program. A leader in women's health, Dr. Swain's mission is to close the gap in fertility care in young patients diagnosed with cancer.
