Our Program has adopted to a 13 4-week block framework.

PGY-1 Resident Rotations
Orientation: an opportunity to be paired with a co-intern and rotate two weeks on obstetrics and two weeks on gynecology as additional residents on service to allow you to ease into residency.
Obstetrics rotation: resident gains experience in normal and operative deliveries, fetal monitoring, high-risk obstetrics, and obstetrical anesthesia. These rotations alternate two weeks of days and two weeks of nights.
Gynecology service rotation: emphasis is on inpatient gynecologic care and outpatient surgical procedures. Residents gain experience in basic surgical skills and inpatient management during this rotation.
Gynecologic Oncology rotation: where experience is gained in the pre- and post-operative management of patients with gynecologic cancer, as well as graduated responsibility in outpatient assessment and follow up of patients with gynecologic cancer.
Internal Consultative Medicine rotation: residents join the preoperative optimization clinic team and learn how to assess and manage patients with complex comorbidities prior to surgery.
Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) rotation: the focus is management of morbidity among surgical patients. Residents manage acutely ill patients, attend ICU didactics and complete the "Fundamentals in Critical Care Surgery" course.
Breast/Ultrasound/Genetics rotation: residents rotate with OBGYN staff trained in breast cancer screening/benign breast diseases management and genetic counseling as it pertains to Obstetrics & Gynecology patients. They attend weekly breast cancer tumor boards in conjunction with general surgery and obstetric radiology is opportunity for improving skills in reading ultrasonography.
Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (REI): residents are exposed to workup including imaging procedures and treatment including IVF of reproductive problems, with a focus on understanding of reproductive physiology
Complex Family Planning: through family planning, we are affiliated with the Ryan Program. Residents will gain understanding of the medical complications of abortion- first and second trimester, Introduction to pregnancy options counseling, Contraceptive counseling, Miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy management and Management of medically complicated patients. We recognize that residents may have moral, ethical, or religious reasons for not performing or assisting with elective abortions.
Continuity clinic: for prenatal and postpartum care with a focus on normal physiology of pregnancy and management of prenatal care. Residents are precepted by a Certified Nurse Midwife.
PGY-2 Resident Rotations
Obstetrics rotation: resident gains experience in normal and operative deliveries, cesarean sections, fetal monitoring, high-risk obstetrics, and obstetrical anesthesia. Primary focus is on increasing complexity in obstetrical skills. These rotations alternate two weeks of days and two weeks of nights.
Gynecology rotation: with time spent at the various Henry Ford facilities including West Bloomfield Hospital and Fairlane Ambulatory Center. Emphasis is placed on outpatient procedures and ambulatory surgery, with increasing participation in inpatient procedures.
Gynecologic oncology rotation: where experience is gained in the pre- and post- operative management of patients with gynecologic cancer, as well as graduated responsibility in the operating room.

Urogynecology Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery rotation: introduces pelvic floor physiology, the investigation (including urodynamic studies) and the treatment (medical and surgical) of pelvic floor disorders.
Float rotation: Two weeks at a time are spent on the night float, with guided management of gynecological emergencies in the Emergency Room.
Research rotation: Two weeks dedicated to begin a research project that can be in the form of clinical research, community initiative research, high school/middle school education research, etc.
Continuity clinic: routine obstetric and gynecological care, with increasing responsibility in management of basic obstetric and gynecologic problems, performance of office procedures, preventive care, and increased understanding of systems-based practice.
PGY-3 Resident Rotations
Obstetrics rotation: resident gains experience in normal and operative deliveries, cesarean sections, fetal monitoring, high-risk obstetrics, and obstetrical anesthesia. Primary focus is on increasing complexity in obstetrical skills. These rotations alternate two weeks of days and two weeks of nights.
Gynecology rotation: with time spent at the various Henry Ford facilities including West Bloomfield Hospital and Fairlane Ambulatory Center. Emphasis is placed on outpatient procedures and ambulatory surgery, with increasing participation in inpatient procedures.
Gynecologic oncology rotation: where experience is gained in the pre- and post- operative management of patients with gynecologic cancer, as well as graduated responsibility in the operating room.
Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery rotation: Develop foundational and advanced surgical skills in minimally invasive surgical techniques including hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and robotic surgery.
Complex Family planning rotation: residents are exposed to workup including imaging procedures and treatment including IVF of reproductive problems, with a focus on understanding of reproductive physiology. Through family planning, we are affiliated with the Ryan Program. Residents will gain understanding of the medical complications of abortion- first and second trimester, Introduction to pregnancy options counseling, Contraceptive counseling, Miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy management and Management of medically complicated patients. We recognize that residents may have moral, ethical, or religious reasons for not performing or assisting with elective abortions.
Maternal Fetal Medicine rotation: residents gain experience in management of high-risk pregnancy conditions for both inpatients and outpatients.
Urogynecology Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery: introduces pelvic floor physiology, the investigation (including urodynamic studies) and the treatment (medical and surgical) of pelvic floor disorders. Continues the experience from second year with senior responsibility.
Float rotation: Two weeks at a time are spent on the night float, with guided management of gynecological emergencies in the ER.
Research rotation: dedicated to continue the research project that you started in the year prior. The project can be in the form of clinical research, community initiative research, high school/middle school education research, etc.
Elective: four-week away elective available, if the resident desires to obtain more experience in a certain field, in preparation for fellowship applications. This must be planned well in advance and approved by Program Director.
Continuity clinic: routine obstetric and gynecological care, with increasing responsibility in management of basic obstetric and gynecologic problems, performance of office procedures, preventive care, and increased understanding of systems-based practice.
PGY-4 Resident Rotations
Obstetrics rotation: senior obstetrical residents assume responsibility for managing the large high-risk obstetrical service. Refinement of advanced technical skills and development of leadership qualities are stressed. These rotations alternate two weeks of days and two weeks of nights.
Gynecology rotation: with emphasis on increasingly more complex surgical cases with post discharge clinical follow-up. Fourth-year residents assigned to the gynecology services oversee and are responsible for emergency admissions and inpatient gynecologic service.
Gynecologic oncology: has the resident participate in surgery for gynecologic malignancies, assist in chemotherapy, and organize a weekly multidisciplinary conference to review new gyn-oncology cases.
Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery rotation: Develop foundational and advanced surgical skills in minimally invasive surgical techniques including hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and robotic surgery.
Maternal Fetal Medicine rotation: residents gain experience in management of high-risk pregnancy conditions for both inpatients and outpatients.
Flex rotation: residents can choose from a rotation list, which includes Urogynecology Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, Research, MIGS, REI, Complex Family Planning, Breast and Cancer Genetics, Gynecologic Oncology and Rural Medicine (away).
Ambulatory rotation: The Ambulatory Clinic rotation is geared toward providing learners an opportunity to increase proficiency in the evaluation and management of women’s health conditions commonly seen in the outpatient setting. By advancing ambulatory clinical and procedural skills with consistent continuity, our goal is to increase confidence in the nuances of ambulatory care as a future practicing attending.
Float rotation: Two weeks at a time are spent on the night float, with guided management of gynecological emergencies in the ER.
Continuity clinic: routine obstetric and gynecological care, with increasing responsibility in management of basic obstetric and gynecologic problems, performance of office procedures, preventive care, and increased understanding of systems-based practice.
