You can receive rapid, life-saving stroke treatment at any of our hospitals, each of which has received a specific certification by the Joint Commission:

What is a Comprehensive Stroke Center?
This Joint Commission certification recognizes the significant resources in staff and training to treat complex stroke cases. It is the most demanding certification that the Joint Commission offers. Henry Ford Hospital has been certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center since 2016 and is one of few hospitals that have been awarded this certification.
For this certification, we are required to have:
- Advanced resources for the acute treatment of stroke patients available 24 hours per day, seven days per week
- A dedicated neurocritical care unit
- A high volume of stroke cases
- Certified vascular neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and vascular surgeons
- Advanced practice nurses
- Advanced neurodiagnostic tools
- A system that optimizes the benefits of carotid artery procedures
- Participation in stroke research
What is a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center?
This Joint Commission certification recognizes stroke hospitals providing endovascular procedures and post-procedural care. Henry Ford West Bloomfield has been certified as a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center since 2019. Henry Ford Macomb Hospital was certified at this level in 2024.
What is a Primary Stroke Center?
This Joint Commission certification recognizes stroke hospitals who provide the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes. Three of our hospitals have been certified as Primary Stroke Centers:
- Henry Ford Jackson Hospital: This hospital has been a Primary Stroke Center since 2016.
- Henry Ford Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital: This hospital has also been a Primary Stroke Center since 2016.
Awards and honors
Henry Ford hospitals in Detroit, Jackson, Macomb and West Bloomfield have been honored with the American Heart Association's (AHA's) Get With The Guidelines®️ - Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award. Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital has received the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Silver Plus award. These awards are presented for a hospital's commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines – ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.
Henry Ford Jackson, Macomb and West Bloomfield hospitals also received the AHA's Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll award and Henry Ford Hospital received the Target: Stroke Honor Roll award for meeting specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient's arrival at the hospital and treatment with thrombolytic medication to dissolve clots.
Additionally, all five Henry Ford Health hospitals also received the AHA's Target: Type 2 Honor Roll award, which aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.
