Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy, also known as pool therapy, is a form of therapeutic exercise designed to restore or maintain function, improve mobility, reduce pain and increase strength. This specialized care is offered at the Henry Ford Macomb Health Center - Chesterfield.
Led by specially trained physical therapists, aquatic therapy uses water and buoyancy to support the body, reduce joint stress, provide resistance and assist with movements. It often speeds up or enhances healing by allowing patients to perform exercises that might be too painful or difficult outside the water.
Aquatic therapy may be recommended after a surgery such as a knee or hip replacement, or used to treat chronic or acute conditions, including:
- Back pain and arthritis
- Muscle spasms
- Fractures and other orthopedic injuries
- Stroke
- Parkinson's disease or other neurological conditions
