Industrial Rehabilitation

Henry Ford Health’s Industrial Rehabilitation Program provides employers and employees with advanced, comprehensive work-related health and wellness services.

To help prevent work-related injuries, the program provides employers with:

  • Worksite and ergonomic evaluations - An assessment of the workplace which incorporates education with tools modification to reduce or prevent on the job injuries, and help facilitate return to work for an injured worker.
  • Functional capacity assessments - Assesses an individual's physical capabilities as it relates to a specific job, work tolerance or occupation. It may also be used to determine an individual's ability to safely return to full-time work or modified duty, as well as help determine if work restrictions, job modifications, or reasonable accommodations are necessary to prevent further injury.
  • Work conditioning - Promotes safe work and prevents back injuries, repetitive motion injuries and other musculoskeletal problems by teaching stretching, strengthening, aerobic training, proper body mechanics, pacing and other physical techniques
  • Injury prevention education - Educational programs that provide employees with basic tools to minimize injuries in the workplace. These programs encourage individual responsibility by providing employees with a fundamental understanding of injuries that occur in the workplace and how they can be prevented.

When a workplace injury occurs, the program provides fast, sophisticated care to help facilitate the employee’s safe and rapid return to work, with reduced risk of re-injury. For weekend or afterhours medical emergencies, employees can go to any of the Henry Ford Health emergency rooms. They will then be referred to Industrial Rehabilitation for follow-up care.

The program is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and other health professionals who specialize in taking care of patients with workplace injuries. Services are tailored to meet each employer’s and patient’s individual needs.

Assessments and therapeutic programs reflect Henry Ford Health's commitment to providing the highest standard of care. When more sophisticated diagnostic exams, laboratory tests or medical services are needed, patients have seamless access to the complete continuum of care at Henry Ford.
