Senior Low Vision Support Groups
The DIO offers the largest support group program for visually impaired and blind people in the Midwest. Our senior support group meetings are held at the DIO, in St. Clair Shores, in Livonia at the Henry Ford Center for Vision Rehabilitation & Research and Sterling Heights.
A welcoming environment for seniors with Low Vision
The DIO senior support groups, serving visually impaired seniors in the metro Detroit area, provide a comfortable environment to discuss the challenges of living fully with a visual impairment. Each group offers several benefits to members, including:
- No charge for attending general meetings
- Guest speakers
- Small group meetings
- Occasional day trips and seasonal events
- Assistance with transportation to meetings, when possible
In addition, individuals may attend the meetings as long as they like. These meetings are characterized by their cheerful, forward-looking, upbeat nature. Many members have been in their group for years, often developing friendships with others in the visually impaired community. All of this is made possible by the Friends of Vision, who serve as volunteers for the events and raise funds to ensure the continued success of these programs.
