Breast Lift

A breast lift raises and firms your breasts by tightening the surrounding tissue and removing excess skin to reshape and support a new breast contour. Breast lifts can be done alone or in combination with breast augmentation or breast reduction.

Breast lifts provide improved shape and position. For many women, the goal is regaining a youthful appearance. This operation can add fullness to the upper part of your breast, move the nipple to a more pleasing location and give better defined cleavage. In some cases, a breast lift is paired with an implant for increased size.

What to expect

The operation is not designed to make the breasts smaller, however in some cases they may appear smaller. The same breast tissue is now a smaller, tighter skin cover. Breast lift incisions are placed so that they are unnoticeable in a bra or swimsuit, but without clothing the scars may be visible.

Recovery is usually a few weeks. At six weeks most people are back to normal activities, including strenuous exercise.

Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?

Yes, in general most women can breastfeed after a breast lift.

Why can’t I have the breast lift and breast augmentation procedures done at the same time?

The goal of a breast lift is to elevate the nipple and tighten the sagging skin for better shape. The operation removes excess skin and closes the remaining skin under some tension. Putting a breast implant in at the same time will increase the amount of tension on the tight skin incisions. This could cause the incisions to open-up. 

Will my insurance cover breast life surgery?

No, insurance will not pay for a breast lift. A significant amount of breast tissue would need to be removed to relieve symptoms associated with large breasts in order for an insurance company to cover a breast surgery. A breast lift does not result in the removal of that much breast tissue.
