The breast implants chosen specifically for you will result in improved breast size, symmetry, firmness, breast position and nipple location. After your surgery you may experience some swelling, which takes time to resolve. Scarring does occur, but there are strategies to improve the appearance of the scars. Within six weeks most women are back to their regular activities.

Frequently asked questions

Are implants safe?

Yes, for the vast majority of women implants are very safe. Although uncommon, the most frequent risks with breast implants are infection, deflation and leakage.  If you are healthy, infection is rare.

What if my breast implants rupture?

If your implants are fractured or ruptured, they may need to be replaced. There are several tests to determine whether or not your implant has been ruptured.

Do implants interfere with mammography or detecting breast cancer?

No, research confirms that breast implants do not interfere with the diagnosis of breast cancer. If you have breast implants, your mammographer is trained in a special technique to lift your breast tissue during the mammogram. You can still conduct self-examinations as well.

Do implants cause cancer?

No, breast implants do not cause breast cancer. The FDA has identified less than 50 cases of a rare lymphoma in only women who had breast implants. To keep this in prospective, more than 10 million women have received breast implants and less than 50 have been diagnosed with Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL). Both the FDA and the ASPS are watching this very carefully. When ALCL develops, that breast will suddenly enlarge. Once diagnosed, the breast implant and cancer are removed and no further treatment is required.
