About Me
Biographical Statement
Dr. Makhni is a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon and team physician for the Detroit Lions.
He has special expertise in the treatment of throwing injuries in baseball players and other overhead athletes, as well as in the treatment of knee ligament injuries, shoulder reconstruction and treatment of shoulder instability, and hip preservation (hip arthroscopy for labral tears and impingement). He also has expertise in joint preservation and cartilage transplantation of the shoulder, elbow, and knee.
Dr. Makhni has extensive experience caring for athletes of all skill levels, from recreational athletes to elite athletes. He is currently a team physician for the Detroit Lions, with experience caring for other professional teams such as the Detroit City FC, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls. He also serves as the team physician for local high schools (Bloomfield Hills High School and Cranbrook Kingswood).
Dr. Makhni believes in shared decision-making between doctor and patient. He makes sure to provide his patients with all the available treatment options, including non-operative and operative.

Dr Makhni is an excellent doctor. He has done two surgeries for me and will be performing another surgery on my knee this summer. I trust him. He makes time to speak with me and my family if we have questions outside the appointment. I have his cell and email which is nice that I have a relationship with him. He is a great doctor and I feel like I have an excellent relationship with him. He explains things well and really cares about me. I feel like I really connect with him.

My visit was an extremely pleasant and satisfying experience!! After talking to my sister and mother about their doctors at Henry Ford, and then seeing how wonderful it was to be listened to by Dr. Makhni and his assistant, I've decided to switch all of my doctors to Henry Ford. My experience with Dr Makhni, made me realize that doctors are not supposed to act like the three said doctors that I've mentioned. I was just resigned to the idea of doctors being arrogant and that they're not going to listen.

ALL OF YOUR PROVIDERS SHOULD BE AT THE LEVEL OF DR. MAKHNI. THE ARE PROFESSIONAL & CARING, TAKING TIME TO LISTEN. I WAS TOLD I COULDN'T SEE HIM BECAUSE OF MY AGE, BUT THEY WERE NICE ENOUGH TO GIVE ME AN APPT., SINCE I WAS AN EXISTING PATIENT. TORN MENISCUS DOESN'T HAVE AN AGE CAP!
