Jennifer A Cowger, MD, MS, FACC

Biographical Statement:

Dr. Jennifer Cowger is a cardiologist who focuses on caring for patients with severe heart failure (aka cardiomyopathy), as well as those who have had — or are being considered for — a heart transplant or a heart left ventricular assist device (LVAD). She also specializes in cardiac sarcoidosis and cardiac amyloidosis.

For many with end stage heart failure, amyloidosis or sarcoid, you have been referred to Dr. Cowger because standard heart care is failing to keep you well. Her goal is to identify the best treatment plan for your heart condition using cutting edge, well-tested interventions.

To ensure her patients have access to the latest therapies, she participates in clinical research and is an active member of prominent cardiac societies likely the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Failure Society of American, and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplant.

Care Philosophy:

I pride myself on being "down to earth" — I want my patients to feel comfortable talking to me and asking questions. I want them to feel as if they have had a clear say in their care. For many patients with advanced heart failure, sarcoid, or amyloid, the relationship with your Advanced Heart Failure Cardiologist is decades long. Many of my patients are like family. Please come to your clinic visit with questions and do not be afraid to talk to me about your concerns. While heart failure is rarely cured, many with even extreme heart disease have options to improve survival or quality of life. 

Research Interests:

My research interests focus heavily on heart assist devices (LVADs), specifically examining device complications and identifying predictors of long term survival. As a member of the Multidisciplinary Amyloid and Sarcoid Programs, I have created a registry to study the impact of interventions on disease outcomes.
