Care Philosophy:
I believe every patient deserves world-class care delivered with compassion. If the current standard of care is not good enough, then I will work with my patients and their families to explore innovative treatment options.
Biography:
Dr. Chebl received his B.S. with High Distinction Honors in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He then earned his medical degree in 1995 from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Following a year of medical internship in San Francisco, he moved to Boston and trained in neurology at the Tufts University New England Medical Center. He served as chief resident and then returned to Cleveland in 1999 to begin his fellowship training at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. There, he completed three fellowships in stroke, neurological critical care, and interventional neurology. Dr. Chebl was one of the first interventional neurologists in the world and the first recipient of the American Society of Neuroimaging Egaz Moniz Interventional Neurology fellowship. He was a co-founder of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology and served as its first vice president. After serving as faculty at the Cleveland Clinic for five years, he moved to the University of Louisville where he achieved the rank of professor. There, he developed the neurointerventional program into a thriving academic and clinical practice. Currently he is the director of the Henry Ford Stroke Center and the head of the Division of Vascular Neurology at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit.
Dr. Chebl specializes in the medical and endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disease, both ischemic and hemorrhagic. He has participated in numerous acute stroke clinical trials as well as many carotid and intracranial stenting trials. He has authored multiple manuscripts and book chapters in the field.
Research Interests:
His primary clinical and research interests include acute stroke interventional (minimally invasive) treatment, and the management of intracranial (head) and extracranial (neck) arterial occlusive disease (blockage and narrowing restricting blood flow to the brain). He is also studying endovascular therapy for symptomatic chronic internal carotid artery occlusion, a condition for which there are no currently effective treatments.
Awards and Recognition:
- Distinguished Service Award, Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology
- Fellow of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology
- First Recipient of the Egaz Monis Fellowship in Endovascular Neurology, American Society of Neuroimaging Education Foundation
