A Message From The Chair

I would like to welcome again our alumni, former faculty and staff, and current members of the Henry Ford Department of Emergency Medicine to our Alumni Newsletter. While all of us were certainly ready to see the end of the pandemic in 2021, I cannot say strongly enough how proud and grateful I am for the dedication and resiliency that our Emergency Medicine physicians, providers, nurses, and administration have displayed in continuously rising to the needs of our communities during the repetitive pandemic surges. Despite the continuing challenge of COVID-19, we will continue to provide you relevant information and updates on the clinical, educational, and research missions of the department and allow you access to it through our web portal. Thank you to all of you who staff and support the frontline regardless of where that might be, and thank you to all of you who have participated in our departmental initiatives, shared in our success, engaged with our past events, and contributed your time and financial support to our missions.

I typically reserve this space to share our continued success of investing in and developing our departmental academic mission. Despite the significant challenges posed by this pandemic, the Henry Ford Department of Emergency Medicine continues to excel in securing research grants and translating that funding into peer reviewed presentations and publications that are changing our specialty for the better. Additionally, your prior and future philanthropic gifts to the Michael C. Tomlanovich Chair Endowment Fund continue to be a vital source of funding for unique residency training program opportunities. However, we must never forget, underemphasize, or take for granted the most important departmental mission being sustained by the 24/7/365 personal sacrifice being made by members of this department and our alumni on the frontline clinically fighting this pandemic. Without that sacrifice, our organization and many others would not have a chance in providing the necessary quality of acute and emergent patient care that our communities deserve. Continuing to rise to the occasion has taken a toll on the personal and professional lives of our friends, colleagues, and peers around us. We must recognize this not only with our words, but also with our leadership and emotional support for one another going forward.

Respectfully and sincerely,

John
