Bright Walls Mural Honoring Healthcare Workers

Denver-based muralist Thomas Evans, known as Detour, wants his work to reflect and connect with the communities he paints for. In Jackson, Detour chose to paint certified nursing assistant Andrea Johnson, because she represents compassion in a time of crisis.

At the peak of COVID-19 in Jackson, Andrea worked 12- to 16-hour days, often comforting isolated patients whose loved ones were unable to visit, due to strict safety guidelines. “I am proud to know I helped make a difference for those who needed me,” Andrea said. Her portrait in vibrant color can be seen on the Henry Ford Jackson Hospital purchasing building on Waterloo, between Michigan Avenue and Homewild.
