Emergency Medicine Clinical Clerkship

Our physicians strive to treat patients with quality and compassionate care. We train our students to treat all patients with the same care that they would want for their loved ones.

This rotation is a balance of clinical encounters, didactic sessions and reading assignments. This blend provides students with a strong foundation in the approach to urgent and critical emergency conditions. There will be a lot of one-to-one teaching on this rotation. Students will find our emergency department physicians to be easily approachable and readily available. 

The more interest students show in learning, the more teaching they will receive.  In addition to the attending physicians, the emergency department nurses and technicians have much to offer.

In addition to the Emergency department at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, some students also will be assigned shifts at Henry Ford Health Center - Brownstown, our nearby full-size medical center.  This new facility is a fully operational Emergency Department and will provide an excellent venue for teaching/learning.

For students interested in applying to the residency program, being involved in a research project or looking for a letter of recommendation, they should let their intentions be known early. This allows for better organization of the schedule and better observation of your performance.

Rotating with fourth-year medical and physician's assistant students are surgical, family practice and podiatric interns.  Every attempt is made to pair rotating students with Emergency Medicine residents to enhance learning.
