The Program
Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital General Surgery Residency is a five-year general surgery program that offers both a comprehensive surgical training as well as a supportive community environment. Residents benefit from extensive operative experience within Wyandotte Hospital and the Henry Ford Hospital system. Residents also rotate at Dayton’s Children Hospital for pediatric surgery, DMC Sinai Grace Hospital for trauma surgery, and Rochester General Hospital for endocrine and pancreatic surgery experience. These rotations allow residents to experience surgical cases spanning from general surgery to a wide variety of subspecialties with complex surgical pathologies. Experience outside of the operating room is enhanced by morbidity and mortality review, dedicated weekly education sessions, surgical grand rounds, and an in-house SIM center.
Located just south of Detroit, the city of Wyandotte and the surrounding downriver communities provide excellent quality of life, affordable and safe housing, and various recreational activities to support residents and their families. Combining comprehensive surgical education with the advantages of a close-knit community, Henry Ford Wyandotte prepares residents to become confident, compassionate, and highly skilled general surgeons, with graduates matching into fellowships and independent practice.
Additional training takes place at Henry Ford Hospital, a 903 bed hospital in the center of Detroit that functions as a major research and academic medical center providing tertiary and quaternary care, offering tremendous clinical and cultural diversity in its patient population. Trauma, Pediatric surgical rotations are available at Dayton's Childrens Hospital and Trauma rotations through the Detroit Medical Center
