Welcome from the Program Director

Welcome to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program!

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital (HFMH) Internal Medicine Residency Program.  Our internal medicine residency-program offers a comprehensive internal medicine program with outstanding clinical and educational experiences. Internal Medicine residents complete their training at HFMH, part of the Henry Ford Health, which is one of the nation’s largest regional academic medical systems.

The HFMH Graduate Medical Education Program operates at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, in Clinton Township, Michigan.  Henry Ford Macomb is a large community based hospital with an excellent mix of diverse medical pathology.  The Internal Medicine residency program is one of 9 fully accredited postgraduate training programs offered at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. HFMH is also the largest base hospital site for Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine medical students.

The Internal Medicine Residency Program offers a broad-based training experience in all aspects of patient care. HFMH Internal Medicine residents also have the opportunity to train at Henry Ford Hospital, an 880-bed academic tertiary care center in Detroit, MI. Residents are able to complete training in medical intensive care and multiple subspecialties such as nephrology, cardiology, hematology, oncology, and rheumatology. Residents also participate in simulation experiences in the state-of-the-art Henry Ford Health Simulation Center.  Each resident will complete five objective structured clinical examinations with simulated patients in the areas of transitions of care, breaking bad news, error disclosure, informed consent and cultural competency.

The HFMH residency program also provides residents the opportunity to establish a panel of patients in the outpatient Henry Ford Macomb Internal Medicine Residency Clinic located in Sterling Heights, MI. Residents will have their own schedule of patients one half-day each week and work with board certified internists as academic preceptors. The residents are able to experience a diverse range of medical pathology in the continuity clinic rotation. Residents are able to follow the same patient panel over the course of three years of training.

The HFMH Internal Medicine Residency program offers a rigorous structured didactic program throughout the post-graduate training experience. Residents will participate in morning reports, morbidity and mortality conferences, journal clubs and board reviews.

It is with great honor and pride that I direct this outstanding and comprehensive internal medicine training program. This program has incredibly dedicated teaching faculty, medical education staff and residents who continually make improvements to enhance the residency training experience.
