Research

Research is an integral component of radiology education and residents at Henry Ford are encouraged to answer their scientific questions with the full support of the department. Although the minimum residency research requirement is 1, most of our residents far exceed this number. Our program is well-represented at local, state, and national radiology meetings, with many research projects culminating as publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Resident research is supported with in house statisticians, medical writers, and editorial support through Graduate Medical Education and the Sladen Library. Access to Endnote for manuscript preparation is also available through the Sladen Library.

Residents are provided a $1500 stipend per academic year through Graduate Medical Education to present their research at conferences with funding available for additional conferences with program director approval. Residents are allotted 5 participant conference days per academic year.

Artificial Intelligence:

The Henry Ford Radiology Department has partnered with Michigan Technological University to research various applications of artificial intelligence in both work-flow and imaging within radiology. Current ongoing projects include natural language processing, auto-protocoling, and others.

Innovation Institute:

Established in 2012, the Henry Ford Innovation Institute is the flagship of Henry Ford Health’s commitment to innovation. The mission of the Innovation Institute is to “engineer the future of healthcare by providing physicians and staff with world-class resources to turn great ideas into transformative products”. The Innovation Institute supports both faculty and residents.
