Orthopedic Didactic Program

The Orthopedic Surgery didactic program at Henry Ford Hospital consists of a full schedule of lectures, discussions, and review of orthopedic basic sciences and clinical concepts. The program includes:

Grand Rounds: Every Wednesday morning (6:30 a.m.) and frequently features visiting experts from across the United States. Morbidity and Mortality conference during this time period once per month.

Wednesday Conference: Two hour protected time (7:30-9:30 a.m.) following Grand Rounds. Typically, two hours of lectures provided by staff surgeons and residents and one hour in the cadaver lab. Cadaveric dissections are performed in advance by rotating groups of residents. Anatomy is focused on surgical approaches and clinical application.

Friday Surgical Skills Lab: Protected time (6:30-8:30 a.m.) focused on developing orthopedic surgical skills with cadaveric and sawbones labs. One-hour fracture conference with staff orthopedic trauma surgeons 2-3 times per month.

Journal Club: Meets monthly to review recent, salient articles in 4-5 subspecialty areas. Residents present each article, which is followed by a discussion among residents and faculty members.
