Application Process and FAQs

Application Requirements:

Applicants must have completed or will complete an ACGME accredited or AOA approved residency program in Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Radiation Oncology or Surgery. Individual consideration will be given to applicants who have completed Pediatrics and Child Neurology residency programs.

Foreign graduates must have ECFMG certification.

Applicants must have completed and passed all USMLE or COMLEX exams. There is no minimum USMLE or COMLEX score requirement.

Applicants must apply through ERAS.

Applications must include:

  • Personal statement demonstrating commitment to Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • 3 letters of recommendation, including one from the Program Director or Department Chair

It is preferred that applications are submitted by the end of August as we begin offering interviews at that time. Applications received after may still be considered pending availability of interview slots.

Interview Process:

Interview offers are typically sent out starting in late August or early September.

Our program conducts interviews between mid-September and the end of October. Consideration will be given to applicants needing interview dates in early November. All interviews must be conducted at least one week prior to NRMP Rank Order List deadline.

All interviews are conducted virtually.

Our program participates in the National Resident Match Program (NRMP) – Medical Specialties Match Program (MSMP).

Does your program accept applications outside of ERAS? No.

Does your program participate in the NRMP? Yes.

Does your program sponsor J-1 visas? Yes.

Does your program sponsor H1-B visas? No.

Do I need to have passed USMLE or COMLEX exams on first attempt? No. It is not a requirement that you pass your USMLE or COMLEX exams on first attempt, although it is preferred. If you did not pass USMLE or COMLEX exams on first attempt, you must have passed them on subsequent attempts.

How many letters of recommendation should I have? Three, including one from your program director or department chair.
