Our transplant offerings include:
- Pancreas transplants for Type 1 diabetes: This option is best for people who:
- Do not have kidney disease
- Have severe diabetes-induced complications, such as nerve or eye damage
- Experience major fluctuations in blood sugar levels even with the use of insulin therapy
- Pancreas transplants for Type 2 diabetes: Pancreas transplants are not as common for people with Type 2 diabetes. While the pancreas usually continues to make insulin, the body does not use it properly. Insulin-producing cells may eventually fail from the stress.
- Simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplant: If you develop chronic kidney failure due to diabetes complications, you may need a new pancreas and kidney. Receiving organs from the same donor reduces your risk of rejection.
- Pancreas after kidney transplant: If your pancreas starts to fail months or years after a kidney transplant, our doctors can help.
