Clinical Trials and Research for Liver Transplants

As a major research institution, Henry Ford offers you the opportunity to participate in national clinical trials and research. You may be able to try new therapies designed to support your liver as you wait for a transplant. Other therapies may help your body fight off infection and rejection following liver transplant surgery.

Clinical trials for liver disease and transplants

Henry Ford researchers are involved in studies to:

  • Keep donor livers healthier: Transplant teams are using an experimental portable liver preservation system that supplies blood to the donor liver. This system keeps the donor liver healthy while it is transported to the recipient.
  • Prevent a return of hepatitis C: Doctors are testing a new type of antiviral medication that may stop the return of hepatitis C following a liver transplant.

Our Liver Disease Center is also actively involved in research. Learn more about liver disease research and clinical trials.
