Clinical Trials and Research for Kidney Transplants
As a Henry Ford patient, you may be able to participate in studies of new medications and therapies. One of our researchers’ primary goals is finding new ways to reduce infection and chronic rejection following kidney transplant surgery.
Improving kidney transplant results at Henry Ford
Henry Ford researchers are involved in various studies evaluating treatment options for kidney transplant patients. These studies include:
- Improving transplant success and patient survival through long-term immunosuppressant (anti-rejection) medication
- Using short-term medications that prompt transplanted kidneys to work sooner
- Giving vaccines and other experimental therapies to prevent dangerous infections in transplant patients
- Identifying patients most at risk for organ rejection so that therapies can be provided
- Genetically testing both donors and recipients to help identify factors that may lead to post-transplant complications for the recipient
- Testing various devices that might improve how well transplanted organs work
