Mike's Story

The nagging pain in Mike Crowe’s left hip was growing worse with each passing day. Soon, simple tasks began to border on impossible. To make matters worse, his job as a furniture service technician highly depended on his ability to bend, kneel, and lift 100 pounds or more. Mike realized he had to do something very soon.

Mike’s wife Denise worked at a beauty salon and recalled seeing many of her clients struggle with hip pain. Her clients would often talk about the exceptional care they received during their hip surgery at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital.

Mike made an appointment with orthopedic surgeon Henri Pierre-Jacques, M.D. and soon scheduled his hip replacement surgery at Henry Ford Wyandotte. He admits that he was incredibly nervous the day of the surgery -- apprehensive even. However, once he arrived at the hospital and greeted by the care team his feelings changed. “It went away pretty quick,” says Mike, citing the professional, yet comforting atmosphere.

Mike was up and moving only hours after surgery, something he credits as one of the major elements in his successful recovery. “The foundation given to me by the hospital staff gave me a proper platform to work with,” he says.

Since his surgery, Mike has returned to his job and is even enjoying riding his bike and golfing again. “The experience with this organization was top-shelf. I deal with many organizations and they pale by comparison because it’s all about them,” he says. “At Henry Ford, I felt it was all about me.”
