Financial assistance for amplification/assistive listening devices

Health insurance provider

Many individuals in the southeast metro Detroit area have health insurance that cover hearing aids, or a portion of hearing aids. Check with your insurance to verify insurance coverage.

Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS)

MRS helps Michigan residents with disabilities achieve employment and self-sufficiency. MRS is part of a network of vocational rehabilitation programs across the U.S. authorized by the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. Each year, more than 7,000 Michigan residents with disabilities are assisted.

People with a wide range of disabilities are served by MRS. One example is hearing loss. A person with hearing loss may be eligible for MRS services if the hearing loss causes problems in preparing for, finding, or keeping a job.

To determine if you are eligible for services, MRS will need information to verify that you have a disability. In the case of hearing loss, MRS requires a copy of your most recent hearing test and medical clearance. A letter will be sent to MRS on your behalf by the audiologist who completed your hearing test and/or hearing aid selection appointment. You will be notified of the eligibility decision by MRS.

Veterans

Veterans of military service may qualify for assistance with hearing aids and other rehabilitation services. Contact your closest VA hospital to get more information.

Lion's Club

For those individuals who qualify (proof of low income) the Lion’s Club will provide discounted hearing aids that are very affordable. Those that live in southeastern Michigan are eligible (Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne counties) if your annual income falls within the guidelines. Various models and types are available for a very discounted price.
