Thyroid cancer affects more than 40,000 people in the U.S. each year. If you are one of them, receiving a cancer diagnosis can be scary.
Fortunately, thyroid cancer is highly curable. Our thyroid surgeons at the Henry Ford Cancer Institute are among the most experienced in Michigan. They perform several hundred thyroidectomies each year, using minimally invasive procedures whenever possible.
What are the symptoms of thyroid cancer?
In its early stages, thyroid cancer often has no symptoms. As the tumor in the thyroid gland grows, you may have symptoms such as:
- Difficulty swallowing
- A lump in your neck that you can see or feel
- Neck or throat pain
- Voice changes
How do we treat thyroid cancer?
Most thyroid cancers eventually need surgery for treatment. This can range from a partial thyroidectomy to a total thyroidectomy with lymph node removal.
If you do need surgery, our thyroid surgeons are highly experienced in performing the surgery you need to effectively treat your disease.
We perform a range of thyroidectomies, allowing us to offer a customized surgery that best fits your needs.
