Arrhythmias treated at Henry Ford Health
In healthy hearts, electrical signals flow in an organized pattern, producing heartbeats with a consistent pattern and pace. Disruptions to this system can cause arrhythmias — some harmless and others that can threaten your life.
We treat a wide range of these heart rhythm disorders, including:
- Atrial fibrillation (AFib): This common arrhythmia occurs when the upper chambers of the heart (atria) contract erratically. Find out more about AFib.
- Atrial flutter: A form of supraventricular tachycardia, atrial flutter is a fast heartbeat in the heart’s upper chambers. Learn more about atrial flutter.
- Bradycardia: When your heart rate is too slow (less than 60 beats per minute), it’s called bradycardia. Find out more about bradycardia.
- Premature atrial contractions (PAC) and premature ventricular contractions (PVC): Extra heartbeats may occur in the upper or lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart. They may throw off the coordination between the two sets of chambers.
- Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT): This fast heartbeat (more than 100 beats per minute) begins in the upper chambers of the heart. Learn more about SVT.
- Ventricular fibrillation (VFib): This heart rhythm disorder requires immediate medical care. It occurs when the lower chambers of the heart contract erratically. Find out more about VFib.
- Ventricular tachycardia (V-tach or VT): This fast heartbeat begins in the lower chambers of the heart. Learn more about ventricular tachycardia.
