Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

As we age, the supporting structures of the face become lax, which contributes to loss of cheek volume, increase of deep folds along the nose, and jowling or excess skin and fat along the jawline. Surgical correction repositions the cheek fat, tightens the underlying tissue, softens the folds and improves the contours of the jawline. Depending on your skin and tissues, results from this type of surgical correction may last for several years. Our cosmetic surgeons bring skilled hands and experience to each patient.

What to expect

During your initial consultation you will undergo a thorough evaluation of your facial structures and features. Photographs are taken and your personalized treatment plan is then created and discussed in great detail.

Facelift surgery generally takes 2 – 3 hours in an outpatient setting. You will be able to go home the same day. The procedure can be performed under general or local anesthesia with light anesthesia. Recovery is approximately one week. You may experience some bruising along the cheeks, jawline and neck.

Surgery involves incisions around your ear, which are generally not noticeable once they have healed. Facelift surgery is often combined with liposuction under your chin and along your jawline. Your results will last for several years.

How old do I need to be to have a facelift?

There is no age requirement for facelift surgery. It is generally performed in patients ranging from 35 – 85 years old.

What are the risks of facelift surgery?

Facelift surgery is relatively safe, however, like any surgery there are some risks. These include minor bleeding, bruising, earlobe numbness and scarring. Address your concerns with your surgeon.

Will I look different after facelift surgery?

No, you will look more rested and rejuvenated. It may also look like you have lost some weight.

How long does a facelift last?

Facelift longevity varies from patient to patient depending on age and other medical conditions. Results may last from 5 – 20 years.

Does insurance cover facelift surgery?

No, most insurance companies do not cover a facelift surgery. We do offer flexible payment options. Discuss with your surgeon the finance options we offer.
