Daniel R Ouellette, MD

I specialize in Critical Care, Sepsis, COPD and ARDS.

Dr. Ouellette attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in Texas where he was the Chief Medical Resident. He then completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas. Dr. Ouellette served in the US Army for 25 years, where he attained the rank of Colonel and was the Army's senior Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine specialist. Currently, Dr. Ouellette is the Associate Director of Medical Critical Care at Henry Ford Hospital.

Philosophy

Doctors should provide the same kind of care to their patients that they would wish to see someone in their immediate family receive. This means taking the time, paying attention to needs. This means being accessible. This means providing advice based on the best clinical evidence. This means helping patients deal with barriers to good care in our health care system.

Research Interests

Dr. Ouellette has published multiple articles and participated in presentations regarding a variety of Pulmonary and Critical Care topics such as bronchoscopy safety and weaning success in patients receiving mechanical ventilation. Current research interests include the diagnosis and management of emphysema, bronchoscopy safety, ventilator management, and the treatment of septic shock with novel agents.

Awards and Honors

Dr. Ouellette is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He has been active in the leadership of the American College of Chest Physicians, having been a member of the ACCP's Board of Regents and currently serving on three Committees. Dr. Ouellette was chosen as the Faculty of the Year in 1998-99 by the Department of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center for his excellence in teaching. Dr. Ouellette was awarded the Legion of Merit by the US Army, the highest decoration given to noncombatants, for his service as Consultant to the US Army Surgeon General during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
