Biographical Statement:

Dr. Albert Levin is a Genetic Epidemiologist in the Department of Public Health Sciences’ Division of Biostatistics, collaborating extensively with principal investigators conducting genetic research. His recent work has focused on the genetic mapping of a number of traits with a strong immunological component, including sarcoidosis, total circulating Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, and asthma. Dr. Levin’s research on sarcoidosis has been focused on identifying genes associated with risk of this disease via mapping through admixture-induced linkage disequilibrium among African Americans. His involvement in the North American asthma genetics meta-analysis consortium (termed EVE) has afforded him the opportunity to lead a multi-ethnic study (consisting of European Americans, African Americans, and Latinos) to identify genes associated with IgE levels, and to be part of the analytical team that conducted the asthma meta-analysis, which resulted in the identification of a new asthma gene unique to African Americans.
