Biographical Statement

Dr. David E. Lanfear is a board-certified advanced heart failure cardiologist with more than 20 years of experience providing comprehensive care for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Lanfear serves as the chief scientific officer and vice president of Clinical and Translational Research at Henry Ford Health (HFH), professor of medicine FTA at Wayne State University School of Medicine, professor of research at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, and co-director of the Center for Individualized and Genomic Medicine at HFH.  Under his leadership, , HFH has strengthened its clinical research enterprise through greater efficiency, collaboration and growth. He has played a key role in expanding the organization's research footprint, including overseeing development of the Detroit-based Michigan State University/Henry Ford Health Sciences Center and increasing access to clinical trials.

An internationally recognized physician-scientist,  Dr. Lanfear's research focuses on precision medicine in cardiology, racial differences in cardiovascular disease, diabetes and energy metabolism, and the application of genomics, biomarkers and artificial intelligence to cardiovascular care. His extensive body of published research has advanced understanding of heart failure risk prediction, treatment response and personalized approaches to patient care.  His work includes numerous successful clinical trials, innovative study designs and large epidemiologic cohort studies. Through his research, he seeks to improve outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease while advancing the field of cardiogenomics and its clinical implementation.

Dr. Lanfear earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan, completed his residency in internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, and pursued advanced training in biostatistics and study design. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the Heart Failure Society of America, and he has served on multiple committees within these organizations. He has received numerous honors recognizing his contributions as a physician-scientist and leader in advanced heart failure research and care.
