About Me
Biographical Statement
Dr. Asmaro grew up in Ontario, Canada and completed his undergraduate education at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He has a dual degree in chemistry and biology, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He remained at his alma mater to complete a neuroscience master of science degree where his thesis focused on the oxidation products of dopamine and their implication on Parkinson’s disease. Following his graduate studies, he completed his medical education at Wayne State University School of Medicine, during which he received funding for his research on stroke therapy and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors.
Dr. Asmaro pursued his neurosurgical training at Henry Ford Health with a focus on skull base pathology. He joined the OMICs laboratory focusing on epigenetic modifications of brain tumors. He was a primary co-author on the first paper to establish the diagnosis of pituitary tumors via a blood draw. As a result, he was awarded the Congress of Neurological Surgery Resident Award for the highest ranked abstract for his Pituitary Epigenetic Liquid Biopsy work. During his residency, he received the highest score nationwide on the American Board of Neurological Surgery’s Primary Examination alongside other honors and achievements.
Dr. Asmaro completed subspecialty training at Stanford University focusing on innovative surgical solutions and development of refined endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery. Through these unique and specialized expertise, he is able to maximize surgical effectiveness and results via less invasive corridors, offering the newest treatment paradigms to patients with pituitary tumors, meningiomas, craniopharyngiomas, chordomas, chondrosarcomas, schwannomas, among others.
Now as senior staff at Henry Ford Health, he is proud to be one of few worldwide who provide minimally invasive endonasal approaches to tackle complex brain tumors. Through this work, expertise, and research, patients enjoy higher cure, remission, and complete tumor removal for previously deemed inoperable brain tumors.
