Henry Ford Hospital Nursing Annual Report
Letter from our Chief Nursing Officer
Dear Colleagues,
This year has been full of exciting change for Henry Ford Hospital (HFH)! The theme for our annual report is “Impacting Lives Every Day” as it epitomizes our High Reliability journey for safety, patient and family experience, and clinical excellence.
I am pleased to feature a team who is doing great work with our new Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP). This year, CUSP teams were formed and began their work to reduce and prevent harm with interprofessional teams, executive and physician champions at the unit level.
Patient experience and family experience are both areas where we continue to improve. Over 1,800 team members attended education on “Raising the Bar” to reinforce customer service skills in September 2019. In addition, throughout the year, the inpatient Collaborative Communication classes have reinforced five essential skills for all team members to demonstrate our culture of caring. Both educational opportunities focus on the use of AIDET+1 and IPASS + SAFETY as two of our communication methods.
Throughout the 2018-2019 Nursing Annual Report, you will read examples of each of the four Magnet Components: Transformation Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice and New Knowledge, Innovation and Improvements. Additionally, you will learn what is new with our work to reduce and prevent patient harm in the Empirical Outcomes section.
I hope you enjoy reading about our continued journey to excellence at HFH. With the foundation of our Professional Nurse Practice Model (PNPM), True North, our Mission, Vision and Values, we continue to prepare for our upcoming Magnet site visit. Please join me in celebrating the exemplary nurses and team of HFH!
Warmly,
Gwen Gnam, MSN, RN
