Henry Ford Health introduces new conference designed for brain tumor patients and caregivers

Henry Ford Health is hosting a first-of-its-kind conference that connects brain tumor patients and their caregivers with the world-class experts pioneering innovative treatments.
The inaugural Hermelin Brain Tumor Center Patient and Caregiver Conference will take place May 3, 2025, at the Gilmour Center at One Ford Place in Detroit. Participants are encouraged to register by April 28.
Designed to empower patients and their loved ones, this free event will highlight the latest research and treatment options for brain and spinal tumors. It will also offer a welcoming space for patients and caregivers to share their experiences and learn about resources for survivors and advocates.
"What's novel about this conference is it's 100% focused on the questions, needs and requests of our patient and caregiver community," said Dr. James Snyder, a neuro-oncologist with the Henry Ford Health Hermelin Brain Tumor Center. "We're coming together with that community to discuss what the future of brain tumor research and treatment looks like — and making sure that we're partners in that care."
More than 1.3 million Americans are currently living with a brain tumor, and nearly 25,000 new malignant brain and spinal cord tumors are expected to be diagnosed this year in the U.S., pushing patients and families into unfamiliar and often overwhelming territory. This conference — developed in collaboration with the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center's Patient and Family Advisory Committee — is intended to provide answers, support and hope.
During the half-day event, Henry Ford Health experts will cover topics including advances in radiation therapy, surgical innovations, managing complications and enhancing traditional care with clinical trials, genetic testing and targeted therapies. Keynote speaker Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, president-elect of the American Medical Association, will share his perspective as both a physician and brain tumor patient.
